A High-Margin Asset With Accelerating Global Demand

Saffron retails at $25–40 per gram, making it the world's most expensive spice. Yet global supply remains constrained by traditional, labor-intensive farming limited to specific climates in Iran, Spain, and Kashmir. ICGroup eliminates these constraints entirely.

Built on Four Competitive Pillars

Every element of our system is engineered to reduce risk and maximise yield quality.

Year-Round Production

No seasonal dependency. Our controlled environment delivers consistent harvests every cycle, 365 days a year.

ISO 3632 Certified

Premium NZ-grown saffron meeting the highest international grade standards for colour, flavour, and purity.

Fully Automated

PLC-based control with AI-driven nutrient dosing reduces labour to under one hour per day per unit.

Modular & Scalable

Each 40ft container is a self-contained production unit. Add capacity incrementally as demand and revenue grow.

Beyond the Kitchen

The rapidly expanding wellness sector is driving demand for saffron beyond culinary use. Our highly controlled growing environment ensures the consistent chemical profile required for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications.

Clinical research increasingly links saffron to benefits in eye health (macular degeneration), mood regulation, and cognitive support — positioning ICGroup product for premium supplement supply chains.

Transforming the Agricultural Supply Chain

At ICGroup, we are bringing saffron cultivation into the 21st century. Our mission is to localise the production of high-value crops using sustainable, technology-driven methods — eliminating the heavy labour costs, geographical limitations, and supply chain vulnerabilities of traditional farming.

Founded in Auckland, New Zealand, ICGroup combines mechatronics engineering with advanced controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) to produce saffron of unmatched consistency, purity, and traceability.

Traditional saffron farming is confined to Iran, Spain, and Kashmir — regions with specific climate windows and extremely high hand-harvesting labour costs. Supply is volatile, quality is inconsistent, and adulteration is rampant in global supply chains.

ICGroup removes every one of these constraints through indoor, automated, year-round aeroponic production in a fully controlled environment.

High-Pressure Aeroponic Architecture

We don't use soil. Saffron corms grow in multi-tier vertical racks where roots are suspended in air, fed by ultra-fine mist from a precision 6-stage RO filtration system on a strict 30-second-on, 5-minute-off cycle. Every parameter is monitored and automated.

01 Aeroponic Growing Chamber
  • Multi-tier vertical steel racks (3–5 levels)
  • Full-spectrum LED bars, 16–18 hr photoperiod
  • 5 kW split-system AC, 15–18°C precision
  • Humidity locked at 60–70% RH
  • HP mist nozzles: 30 s ON / 5 min OFF cycle
02 RO Filtration & Control Hub
  • AEROLAB V4 automated controller (pH/EC)
  • 6-stage reverse-osmosis filtration
  • Dual peristaltic nutrient dosing pumps
  • 55 L reservoir with digital level monitoring
  • High-pressure pump and sealed manifold
03 Drying & Packaging Suite
  • Mesh-screen drying racks (natural air-dry)
  • Environment maintained at 42% RH
  • Batch-labelled mason jar storage
  • Analytical precision balance for grading
  • Clean-room standard surfaces

Pharmaceutical & Nutraceutical Grade

Our highly controlled growing environment ensures a consistent phytochemical profile in every batch — a prerequisite for pharmaceutical and supplement supply chains.

Growing research links saffron's active compounds (safranal, crocin, picrocrocin) to measurable benefits in macular degeneration, mood regulation, and cognitive support. ICGroup is positioned to supply this rapidly expanding sector.

Phase 1: Garage Proof-of-Concept

Our fully operational Auckland garage pilot (5.4 m × 2.6 m × 2.0 m) serves as the technological testbed. It validates every critical variable — aeroponic delivery, climate control, yield cycles, and post-harvest processing — before capital is committed to commercial scale. Every sub-system deployed here is the exact architecture that scales into a 40ft container unit.

Phase 2: Container Farm Scale-Up

Having de-risked the technology in Phase 1, we deploy retrofitted 40ft reefer containers as self-contained, climate-controlled production units. Each container runs 5 vertical tiers with 500 kg corm capacity, producing ~1.0–1.8 kg of dried saffron annually. The first commercial farm starts with 2 containers and scales to 5 within 12 months.

Phase 3: Modular Global Deployment

The container model is infinitely scalable. Each additional unit adds ~1.5 kg/year output with minimal incremental overhead. Our 5-year target is 10–20 container capacity, opening export channels across NZ domestic premium retail, UAE, India, Australia, and USA. Licensing the growing protocol and agri-tourism revenue offer additional income diversification.
